Updated: CPSS Website Gets Makeover, Hits Milestone

There is nothing like a fresh haircut, a stunning new outfit, or a relaxing day at the spa to make you feel like a brand new person. While a periodic personal makeover goes a long way for individuals, the same can be said for technology.

The Certified Patient Service Specialist® (CPSS) program website is officially in its sixth year and just received a modest, but meaningful makeover of its own. The site’s new look includes expanded video and images spanning the width of a monitor, updated icons and styling that are clean and relevant, and more featured testimonials from some of our valued CPSS members. We hope you like the site’s updated look as much as we do.

With its new look, the CPSS website continues to provide ophthalmic staff with trusted online training, certification, and continuing education to increase the quality of patient care. What started as a seemingly innocuous “oh, I have a thought” suggestion from our BSM Advisory Board eight years ago, has grown into the go-to resource for administrators proactively looking to properly train their staff, and ultimately, raise the standard of patient care throughout the entire practice.

As of this writing, we are excited to share that the CPSS program hit a major milestone and is nearing several others.

  • This morning we surpassed 5,000 staff members using the CPSS program for training and development. We couldn't be more thrilled!
  • There are currently 497 practices enrolled in the CPSS program. We are anxiously counting down until we reach 500 participating practices. Could you be the 500th practice?
  • There are nearly 2,700 staff who have completed the online training and successfully passed the certification exam. These staff members proudly wear the CPSS pin on their lapel at work. Congratulations to all!

As a reminder, the CPSS program includes 19 training courses on topics that range from customer service to industry-specific areas such as ophthalmic diagnoses; eye care examinations; triaging; and billing, coding, and insurance. Applicants have online access to these training courses and, after they feel adequately prepared to take the 130-question certification exam, they schedule time with their administrator to take the closed-book exam. Upon receiving a passing score of 80 percent or higher, applicants carry the CPSS designation for three years. Every three years, applicants are required to recertify by showing proof of completing 15 continuing education credits during that time. Year-after-year, we love seeing experienced staff recertify their CPSS status and rededicate their commitment to patient care excellence.

Having watched this program evolve from infancy to walking and now running, it is rewarding to step back and look at how far it has come. We have no doubt that this program will continue to help ophthalmic staff members gain the confidence and tools they need to manage the patient experience for years to come.
